I purchased the kindle version of this book more than 2 moths ago and I am sad to say that I am very disappointed.The work show a great amount of promise, but unfortunately did not fulfill even my most basic expectations of a well written, comprehensible, and captivating storyline.
I was truly hoping that it would be different, that I could write a positive review of this very long and drawn out repetitious failure of a story.
I love reading about the mob, and am an avid reader of many crime, history, and political novels.
After about 100 pages I just gave up.
The characters weren't colorful and the plot was the same old, same old.
Gangster is killed, another gangster is killed, and yet again..... another gangster is killed.
YAWN
At this point in my life my time is just too valuable to waste hoping for something that just will not come.
I applaud the author for a good try.
But to me anyways, he just doesn't have the stuff I'm looking for.

The book read like'The Sopranos',and I loved it!Insightful,riveting,it was really light reading,you were drawn to the character change in Alexie..there were lots of typing errors,some funny.But all in all,a great book!
So I have the book, and I am reading it... Haven't finished it yet, I am not even mid-way yet... But what I like about it is that it is an easy read, and my brain is swarming with ideas on "whodunits"... I think it's this guy, because... oh, wait, I should not tell the story... But I encourage you to buy, and read it for yourself...
This was a fantastic read. I finished the whole book in two days, only because i could not put it down. With twists and turns on every page it kept me guessing and asking for more. The story line around a family makes you have a certain emotional attachment to this plot. You find yourself asking how far would you go for your own family. I loved the writing style, it was easy to understand and had a certain flow that i could easily follow. I never felt like i had to go back to understand what was happening. I felt it was very well written. I would recommend anyone who has every wondered what happens in the world of organized crime to pick up this book. It doesn't give you the commercialized definition of the "mafia" but rather gives you an in depth look into what this family faces on a personal level. I hope this author keeps it coming.
This book is about Soviet Union immigrants who run business in the United states mostly in New York, doing all kinds of illegal operations, from highjacking to credit card scams. It is one of those books that don't make you fall asleep while you're reading it. The plot is breathtaking and intriguing. the way the things are described seems very realistic. It's written in simple and plain language which meanwhile has a lot of descriptive words to convey all the details you need.
Hands down, one of the best crime novels I've read in a while. The thing I liked about this book is that its so hard to put down. The plot twists and action make you want to see constantly whats on the next page. We don't see too many novels like this which are big Crime Family epics. This is similiar in style to Mario Puzo's Godfather. I liked the details of the various crimes that the characters are involved with. Not too many books about the Russian Mafia in America, so it was refreshing to read a new perspective on Americas organized crime world. If you are a fan of Goodfellas, Scarface, Sopranos, then you will enjoy this book.
